Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM is located near a railway between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. This rail line has the potential to provide residents access to educational and employment opportunities in nearby urban centers as well as attract tourists to local businesses within the pueblo. However, there is currently no safe pedestrian access between the station and the pueblo. The Santo Domingo Tribal Housing Authority, working with Laurie Olin and his landscape architecture firm, have proposed a pedestrian way that would connect the train station with a new tribal artist’s market and affordable housing development. The path will feature local artist-designed nodes for resting and lingering along the way. The impacts on community health, environment, economic growth, cultural entrepreneurship, and housing access will establish new livable guidelines for development within the pueblos.
